Facts You Learn by Living on a Farm

  • Back in the old days, all farms were diverse.  Many dairy farmers also had pigs because when they would send off cream and were left with skim milk, which was hard to sell back then, they would feed it to pigs.  This made use of all of their product and they got great pork on the side. – Joe Sanders
  • You can tell that southern Ontario has had good luck in agriculture for many generations from the cement silos that spot the old homesteads around here.  Back in the day you had to be doing pretty well to afford to build a cement silo, and you can still see quite a few of them around.  You won’t see a single one back on PEI, it has been only recently that farming has taken hold there. – Dirk
